PPTIK ITB Holds FGD: QoE Measurement Innovation Based on User Perception for Video Streaming Services

Bandung, July 21, 2025 – The Research Center for Information and Communication Technology (PPTIK) ITB in collaboration with the Bandung ACM Chapter has successfully held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled “Innovation of Quality of Experience (QoE) Measurement Model for Video Streaming Services Based on User Perceptions.” This activity was held at the CRiMSE Building Auditorium, 8th Floor, Bandung Institute of Technology, and was attended by 50 invited participants from academics, researchers, students, and industry practitioners.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Andriyan Bayu Suksmono, M.T., Ph.D, as Chair of Bandung ACM Chapter, who emphasized the importance of prioritizing user perception in designing and evaluating digital multimedia services in the current era of digital transformation.

The first session was presented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Y. Bandung, S.T., M.T., with a presentation entitled “QoE Model for Video Streaming Services Based on User Perception.” In his presentation, Prof. Bandung discussed the importance of integrating subjective user perceptions into the QoE assessment framework to be more representative of the real user experience in enjoying video streaming services.

The next session was delivered by Prof. Armein Z. R. Langi, M.Sc., Ph.D, with the material entitled “Intelligent Engineering Based on Triune Intelligence.” He introduced a triune intelligence-based engineering approach as the basis for designing adaptive systems, including multimedia services that are responsive to user behavior and preferences.

The series of FGD activities were closed with an interactive workshop session hosted by Fahmi Chandra Permana, S.Si., M.T.. This workshop was designed based on Baraković’s Best Practices (2022) and refers to the international standard ITU-T Recommendation P.910 related to the measurement of subjective perceived quality of video services. In this workshop, participants measured the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) through a structured procedure, starting from explaining the experiment, training on the rating scale, to playing test videos with a variety of content and movements. The assessment was conducted online via Google Form, covering two main aspects: Perception of Quality (PQ) and Perception of Ease of Use (PEU). The data collected is not only for simulation, but also used as initial data to validate the multidimensional QoE model being developed by the PPTIK ITB research team.

This activity is not only a forum for sharing knowledge and experience, but also strengthens the direction of PPTIK research in developing QoE models that are relevant to the context of users in Indonesia. By emphasizing the importance of user perception as the main indicator, PPTIK ITB hopes that the results of this activity can contribute to improving the quality of multimedia services in the future.
