The Center for Information and Communication Technology Research, Institut Teknologi Bandung (PPTIK ITB), will hold a Focus Group Discussion entitled “Privacy-Preserving Intelligent Video Surveillance System Innovation for Urban Development and Public Safety in Indonesia.” This activity serves as one of PPTIK ITB’s strategic forums to encourage the development of intelligent technologies that support urban development, enhance public safety, and protect public privacy.
The FGD will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB, at the Auditorium, CRiMSE Building, 8th Floor, ITB. The event is organized by PPTIK ITB in collaboration with the ACM Bandung Chapter and will feature speakers from both academic and government sectors.
The theme of this activity focuses on the need to develop intelligent video surveillance systems capable of addressing the challenges of modern cities. On one hand, artificial intelligence-based video surveillance technology has significant potential to support environmental monitoring, public safety, traffic management, and emergency response. On the other hand, its implementation must also consider ethical aspects, data security, information governance, and the protection of individual privacy.
Through this event, PPTIK ITB aims to provide a cross-disciplinary discussion forum to formulate the direction of video surveillance system innovation that is not only technologically advanced, but also secure, responsible, and aligned with the needs of Indonesian society. This forum is expected to bring together perspectives from research, public policy, urban planning, and field-based technology implementation.
The event will feature four main speakers: Prof. Ir. Ridwan Sutriadi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. from SAPPK ITB, Ir. Budi Rahardjo, M.Sc., Ph.D. from STEI ITB, Dr. Purnomo Yustianto, S.T., M.T. from the Government of West Java Province, and Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir. Suhardi, M.T. from STEI ITB. The presence of these speakers is expected to enrich the discussion from various perspectives, ranging from urban and regional planning, information system security, government policy, to the technological architecture of intelligent surveillance systems.
The event will begin with opening speeches by Prof. Andriyan Bayu Suksmono, M.T., Ph.D., Chair of the ACM Bandung Chapter, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Y. Bandung, S.T., M.T., Head of PPTIK ITB. The discussion will be moderated by Irma Amelia Dewi, S.Kom., M.T.
This activity is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening collaboration among universities, government institutions, professional communities, and relevant stakeholders in building an intelligent video surveillance technology ecosystem oriented toward the public interest. In addition, this discussion is also expected to encourage the emergence of research ideas, innovations, and practical recommendations for the development of technology-based public safety systems that continue to uphold the principles of privacy.
