PPTIK ITB Engages in Strategic Dialogue on Building a Strong Research Ecosystem for World-Class University Performance

Bandung, May 8, 2025 — ITB Research Center for Information and Communication Technology (PPTIK) actively participated in the Sharing Session Vol. 2 hosted by the Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI) ITB, held at the Amphitheater, 1st floor of CRiMSE Building, ITB Ganesha Campus. Themed “Building a Strong Ecosystem to Achieve World-Class University (WCU) Research Performance”, this session served as a platform for academic reflection, institutional strategy, and leadership insights in higher education.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Ir. Hermawan Kresno Dipojono, M.S.EE., Ph.D., Professor at the Faculty of Industrial Technology (FTI) ITB. He outlined a five-year target framework for early-career lecturers to position themselves globally through top-tier publications, high-impact collaborations, and partnerships with researchers from globally leading institutions.

Prof. Hermawan emphasized five key pillars in developing a high-performing research ecosystem:

  1. Human Resources: Encompassing lecturers, students, technicians, and staff, all of whom must be competent, motivated, and visionary.
  2. Facilities: Encouraging collaboration in the face of limited resources, fostering innovation even without ideal conditions.
  3. Funding: Leveraging the national WCU program with an allocated fund of IDR 500 billion for Indonesia’s top 7 universities, where ITB is included.
  4. Atmosphere: Cultivating a culture of excellence, perseverance, and group pride through consistent academic engagement.
  5. Governance: Building a Scientific Empire—research groups led by exemplary academic figures that inspire ambition and long-term impact.

One key message from the session was the importance of sustaining internal motivation, fostering collaborative growth, and aligning personal and institutional goals to serve broader societal needs. Prof. Hermawan encouraged faculty members not to be afraid of starting alone, but to seek out and learn from more advanced research groups—believing that success in academia is built on discipline, humility, and enduring effort.

The session was moderated by Dr. rer. nat. Rino Rakhmata Mukti, Senior Lecturer at FMIPA ITB, who echoed the importance of creative and ambitious human resources, technical load-sharing within research teams, and forward-looking international collaboration.

By attending this strategic forum, PPTIK ITB reaffirms its commitment to strengthening research ecosystems, cultivating global collaboration, and contributing to ITB’s vision of becoming a world-class university through innovation and impact.
