ITB and Tsinghua SIGS Collaboration Seminar: Exploring “The Next Big Things” in AI, Smart Systems, and Digital Twin

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), successfully hosted a Collaboration Seminar titled “The Next Big Things: AI, Decision Support System, Digital Twin, Smart System, and Living Intelligence.” This seminar was held on April 25, 2025, at the STEI Meeting Room, Institut Teknologi Bandung. The event brought together experts from both institutions to share the latest developments in artificial intelligence and smart technology research. The event was moderated by Dr. Arry Akhmad Arman from the Information Technology Research Group at ITB and featured five distinguished keynote speakers. From Information Technology Research Group (KKTI) ITB was represented by Prof. Armein Z.R. Langi, from ITB Research Center for ICT (PPTIK) by Prof. Y. Bandung, from AISX Research Collaboration Center by Prof. Suhono Harso Supangkat, and from Tsinghua SIGS by Prof. Chan Waikin Victor and Prof. Ercan Engin Kuruoğlu.

Prof. Armein discussed the development of an AI-based Decision Support System applied to the loan approval process. He explained how AI could enhance accuracy and fairness in assessing borrower eligibility by analyzing various critical factors. From Tsinghua SIGS, Prof. Chan presented his research on using AI for funding distribution in scientific projects and research proposals. He demonstrated AI simulations that predict outcomes based on changing variables and showing visualizations of research topic relationships through interconnected threads.

Addressing urban safety, Prof. Bandung introduced his research on AIoT for an Intelligent Video Surveillance System. His case study illustrated how AI-enhanced CCTV cameras could detect violent activities in public areas, offering a promising solution for improving urban safety.
Prof. Ercan invited participants to explore future challenges in AI. He discussed the paradigm shifts before and after AI adoption, particularly in digital signal processing, and highlighted the hurdles that need to be overcome to further advance AI applications.
Lastly, Prof. Suhono shared insights on the implementation of Smart Cities and Digital Twin technologies, emphasizing how real-time data integration and virtual modeling could significantly improve urban management and sustainability.

This seminar not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also strengthened the collaborative relationship between ITB and Tsinghua SIGS in advancing future technologies that can positively impact society. The event demonstrated that international and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential for ushering in the next era of artificial intelligence and smart technology.
